Building relationships is vital to Diné Naazbaa Partnership (DNP), showing those in our community that we are a resource before a crisis occurs. This was the case for the Bahe family, who met the DNP team at a local event. Little did the family know that this team would soon provide a lifeline for keeping warm during the harsh winter.

Ever wondered what $10 could do? It can save the lives of veterans like the one you're reading about in this story. Donate $10 a month and help us reach veterans before a crisis occurs. Together, we can do better. Our veterans deserve better.

Leandra Bahe is a former Marine Lance Corporal (LCpl) who met DNP Program Lead Cassandra Morgan at a December event in Gallup, NM. After talking with Leandra and her husband, Cassandra assured the couple that DNP is a resource available to them for whatever they need. Not long after meeting Cassandra, the family ran out of propane. They had a wood stove to keep them warm throughout the rest of the cold winter but not much wood to feed the fire. With a dwindling wood supply in the bitter cold, Leandra contacted the DNP team for help.

By what seemed like fate, DNP had recently acquired a donation of a cord of wood to go to a fellow veteran in need. DNP Case Coordinator Karen Shirley drove to Holbrook, AZ, to pick up the cord of wood and food. A veteran in Show Low also donated some food and an electric blanket with pillows. Knowing time was of the essence, the resources were delivered to Leandra as soon as possible to ensure the family was safe and warm.

The family was incredibly grateful for the rapid support through what could have been a bitter time. DNP will maintain a line of communication with the Bahe family to ensure they have everything they need to thrive in our community.
